Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the process of examining electrical appliances to ensure they are safe for use. This involves both a visual inspection and electrical tests to identify any potential hazards like damage or faults. PAT testing helps prevent electrical accidents, such as shocks and fires, and ensures compliance with safety regulations. 

If you are in the party and events business, you will be required by venues, hotels and other entertainment establishments to provide evidence that the electrical equipment you are bringing on to there premises has been PAT tested and all items are included in the up to date PAT tested certificate.

If you are unable to provide the details then the venue or hotel have the right to refuse you access.

Key aspects of PAT testing:

• Visual Inspection: This involves checking for physical damage to the appliance, its cable, and plug, including cracks, fraying, and signs of overheating. 

• Electrical Tests: These tests, performed with specialized equipment, assess the electrical safety of the appliance. Common tests include earth bond tests, insulation tests, and polarity checks. 

• Frequency: The frequency of PAT testing depends on the type of appliance and the environment it's used in. High-risk environments and equipment may require more frequent testing than low-risk ones. 

• Record Keeping: It is essential to keep records of PAT tests, including a list of tested appliances, test results, and any failed items, according to Electrical Safety First. 

• Responsibility: Employers and business owners have a legal responsibility to ensure the electrical safety of appliances and equipment in their care

Small items such as cables, extensions can be brought to us.
